History
Veterinary medicine dates back all the way to 3000 BC. Urlugaledinna was the first man ever recorded to have a passion for helping animals. He lived in Mesopotamia- a small area which covers modern day Syria, Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Kuwait. The next big milestone for veterinary medicine was in 1761, when the first vet school opened in Lyon, France. At this time mainly horses were being treated because of the army, then it spread to cattle and other livestock, then dogs and now companions and exotic wildlife. Veterinary medicine first came to Ontario on September twenty-fourth 1874 when twenty-seven pioneering vets met in Toronto to form the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association. Today Ontario has over 4,600 lisenced vets and over 1,300 practices.
